Bingo News: Dragonfish Chief Executive shock departure

It has been announced that the Chief Executive of Dragonfish, the business to business division of 888 has left the company. Gabi Campos is thought to have left to explore his own personal projects and will be temporarily replaced by 888’s Chief Executive, Gigi Levy. A full time replacement will be announced sometime in the next month.

Dragonfish provide the software for a number of the big bingo brands such as Costa Bingo, Wink Bingo, Think Bingo and newest addition Bingoyard which was launched in March 2009 with Gabi Campos heading the launch. Back then he had worked for the company 2 years and oversaw the acquisition of Globalcom who provides Bingo Scotland, Mirror Bingo and Foxy Bingo with their software. Dragonfish was created to offer business to business services to media companies looking to enter the bingo, casino, poker and sportsbook sector but with minimal overheads.

An anonymous source who understands 888’s operations has said: “The relationship between Gabi and Gigi seems to have become increasingly strained, especially as Dragonfish is perceived as the only growth area of the business. Gabi definitely saw it as his own kingdom and would have liked to have eventually seen it spun-off. In the end it was his personal decision to leave. It definitely didn’t help that 888 failed to buy both GTS and Cashcade, both of which they were in a position to execute and then didn’t do so. There was a feeling that these two could have been key deals and to lose them to Playtech and Party doesn’t look good to the City, especially at a time when profits are dropping. But you should remember that 888 is hugely cash generative and it would be silly to write them off.”

The city had recently been surprised by 888’s profits warning although they also said that online bingo was the light in their otherwise gloomy report.
