Rank the gaming group behind Mecca Bingo has said that the cold weather has prevented their members from visiting their Bingo Clubs in the last couple of weeks.
Visits to Clubs has reduced by 32% in the week leading up to 5th December when Arctic conditions brought the country to a standstill including Mecca Bingo, it seems.
In the 9 weeks preceding 5th December visits dropped by 5% which was an about turn on what had been a vast improvement in the Bingo business.
Mecca Bingo stated earlier in the year that the number of Club visits has risen for the first time in over 5 years. This was in the early part of 2010 and was thought to be a result of the rebranding on 6 of Mecca’s land Clubs which now appeal to a younger age group shaking off the image that Bigno is mainly an older persons past time.
Obviously the smoking ban and a change in the rules regarding money spinning games machines and strict tax regimes have also had an impact on the amount of Bingo business, particularly the recession.
Mecca noted that just 1% of revenue was down across their 103 Clubs in a 9 week time period after customers spent more money per visit after the company offered better food and drink in their Clubs.
Although actual visits to Clubs has decreased sales at Mecca have increased by 3% in this same time period which has been attributed to better results from Grosvenor Casinos and online games sites. This company claimed a 3% rise in their customer visits and an 8% increase in revenues. That said, visits to Grosvenor Casinos have been lagging in the last few weeks leading up to December which has been disappointing following an increases in visits in the first quarter of the year.
Rank Group intend on having 20 all singing all dancing casinos live by 2012, they will rebrand 13 of their existing casinos under their G Concept which is aimed at a younger clientele.
