The World Snooker Association has just signed a sponsorship deal for the UK Championship with UK bookmaker William Hill. The Championship which began back in Blackpool in 1977, is the second biggest ranking snooker event after the World Championship.

The nine day event started on Saturday from Barbican in York and is being shown on TV by the BBC. The event features 32 of the best players in the World including the current champion John Higgins.

“The UK Championship is one of the crown jewels in the world of snooker and we’re delighted to put our name to such a prestigious event,” said Kristof Fahy, Chief Marketing Officer for William Hill. Other well known names who are taking part in the UK Championship include Mark Selby, Steve Davis, Mark Williams, Graeme Dott and Shaun Murphy.
