ME Arcade Review

ME Arcade comes from the same multimedia group that brings you the Metro free newspaper, and has similar styling, so you’ll already feel at home before you even begin playing. The arcade actually comes as part of a package of gaming sites, with tabs for fantasy football, bingo and a casino all available, too.

Strangely, though, you’ll also find plenty of casino games to play here too, so actually it’s more than just an arcade. It’s a little confusing, as the word ‘arcade’ is often used by large online gaming sites that want to differentiate their hardcore slot and table games from lighter fare such as scratchcards, Keno and TV show-themed slots, but that’s not the case here. In fact, it’s quite the opposite: You’ll find games like The X-Factor and Deal or No Deal in the casino section rather than the arcade. We suspect the differentiation is more to do with software licencing and development issues than anything else, but the arcade alone does have plenty to offer.

It’s no-download site and works well in just about any browser, which is fitting as it’s run by a media organisation. Other similar sites owned by large media corporations (e.g., Sky Vegas) operate a tabloid-style approach to their sites, and this one, sensibly, takes the same route. It’s bright and engaging whilst being easy to navigate - just like a tabloid newspaper - with tabs at the top for slots, scratchcards, number games and table games, which all appear in easy-to-access grid formats once you’ve selected your desired tab.

The banking options are made nice and clear, and though we’ve seen more options, this is more than compensated for with the ability to withdraw using any of the deposit methods, which is something we wish all gaming sites would do. ME Arcade get ten out of ten for this, and you can use any of the following:  Visa (debit, credit, Electron); Mastercard, Maestro, Neteller, Skrill (Moneybookers), Paysafecard or UKash.

Slots come courtesy of Cryptologic so you’ll find the original Marvel games like The Fantastic Four and Spiderman before Playtech sneakily bought rights to the films based on them and helped shove Cryptologic into decline; you’ll also see some other legendary titles such as Elvis Slots, Rainbow Riches and Pimp My Slot (brilliant fun, not to be missed). There are also 5 scratchcards, and more interestingly 13 intriguing number games including Deal or No Deal, Pachinko, Top Trumps Football and Triple Chance Hi/Lo.

If table games are more your thing, you won’t be disappointed: They’ve included 6 Roulette games, Blackjack, Casino Stud Poker, Red Dog and more to keep you busy, and having tried most of them out we can report that they’re every bit as good as equivalent games from the bigger manufacturers.

As expected, customer service is covered in full with 24 hour live chat, telephone and email all on offer, not just 24 hours a day but 365 days a year.

There are also some decent promos as you‘d expect from a media-based operator: Your first deposit gets matched 100% up to £125; there’s a loyalty points system and a refer-a-friend scheme too. There’s also the chance to win FA cup final tickets which we’ve seen on a few sites recently, but it’s still out of the ordinary and MEArcade deserve praise for that.

All in all this is an impressive site considering no-one expects the Metro group to have their own gaming site, however: The casino and arcade sections are not hugely different in terms of content and it doesn’t make sense to separate them unless the table games are live, or the slots are radically different – but they aren’t. You’ll probably find that the main high street bookmakers offer multiple gaming options under one roof like this, but with greater quality and choice – however it’s an honest affair that deserves a look if there’s a promotion that really appeals to you…
