Slot Magix Review

Despite its name, Slot Magix is actually a one-stop site for anyone looking for casino table and card games, videopoker and scratchcards as well as slots. It was launched in 2011 but has the look and feel of a more established site, with a comforting brown and beige colour scheme in an endearingly home-made style that sets it apart from its competitors. It uses some unusual software too, with the entertainment supplied by the little-known Cozy Games.

The site doesn’t require any download and has a fairly straightforward registration process, although when testing we were told we had registered and logged in successfully but were unable to use any of the games in practice mode due to our login apparently not existing…

Slotmagix take Visa Electron, Solo, Switch and Maestro debit cards, Visa and Mastercard credit cards, Paysafecard and UKash. We couldn’t find any information on withdrawal times as the banking page wouldn’t load.

Although we were unable to access the games in practice mode, Cozy games do allow you to test them on their own website. The games are impressive, with sharp, contemporary visuals and enjoyable sound samples supplementing some impressive gameplay. We’d recommend trying some of the latest releases:

Whilst there are dozens of beach-themed slots on the web, Tropical Island was one of the best we’ve seen, with an imaginative playing environment and Southern Pacific soundtrack lifting it just above its peer group. If, however, you prefer rainy ol’ Blighty to sunnier places then Brittonaire is a great tribute to all things UK-related, with bulldogs, London taxis and fish ‘n’ chips to keep you busy.

Hot Habaneros is a great, Mexican-themed game with donkeys, piñatas, sombreros and spicy treats to keep you entertained – and unlike a lot of Cozy’s games has a bonus round as well as the usual wilds, scatters and free spins. Also worth a look is Old MacDonald’s Farm with its Flash-style graphics – again there’s a bonus round, letting you milk a (cash?) cow if you can get three chickens on a payline.

Cozy’s range is really all about the slots and all 29 of them that can be found at Slotmagix hold their own compared to the games offered by the bigger manufacturers. They may not feature scenes from classic movies, or cutting edge 3d visuals but they still punch well above their weight. The table and card games are perfectly acceptable, though there aren’t many to choose from – this is really a slots site, though, so they make for interesting diversions when you need a break from the reels.

You’ll also find ten scratchcard games here along with a couple of videopoker offerings, so they really do have most areas covered, no matter how thinly.

Should you require customer support from Slotmagix there’s a 24/7 chat facility, as well as email support, although no turnaround time was given. There’s no telephone number given, though, and you do get the impression this isn’t a site with limitless resources.

For such a small, independent site Slotmagix have come up with an impressive range of promotions, though the first one in their list is a little confusing:

You’re given £20 for signing up, though this is described as ‘Play Money’, and they do state that any winnings generated from it cannot be withdrawn. The only conclusion we can draw from this is that

the £20 represents practice play credits and nothing else, which may explain why we were prevented from accessing practice play via the games themselves. Maybe they’re seeking to limit practice play, to encourage you to deposit, but their description of the £20 as being ‘free real cash’ is misleading.

More straightforward is the standard welcome bonus of 150% up to £750, which is subject to a 30 times playthrough requirement on slots. This is about as typical as you’ll find on the larger sites, so Slotmagix have kept up well here.

You’ll also find a 10% reload bonus deal, a loyalty points scheme, VIP scheme and a 50% refer-a-friend offer as well. Apart from the rather strange £20 up –front freebie, the promo section of Slotmagix is the one thing it has that is really mainstream.

When you play here it’s obvious from the outset that that Slotmagix is one of the smaller players in the industry, and as such they offer some surprisingly good slots which are the only reason you’ll really want to come here - though given their name it’s unlikely anyone will want Roulette, Craps or Poker at a site like this.

We liked the quirky, homespun appearance and the range of slots, which offered some original themes and some interesting takes on existing ones. Slotmagix are clearly trying hard to hold their own in a marketplace filled with licencees tied in with the big five slot manufacturers, so they should be applauded for keeping their head above water.

If you pick half a dozen slot sites at random these days, you can almost guarantee that you’ll find the same headline games appearing on at least 2 or 3 of them: It’s up to the likes of Slotmagix and Cozy Games to keep the market alive, so let’s hope they keep moving forward.
