Friday 13th - Unlucky For Some?

I looked further into this on Wikipedia and various other sources. In the Gregorian calendar (the one we use every day) Friday the 13th can occur from 1 to a maximum of 3 times in a year.
Wikipedia says that the superstition about "Friday the 13th" only occured after the 19th Century.
One theory is that an Italian composer - Gioachino Rossini wrote a biography in 1869 saying that he regarded Friday as an unlucky day and thirteen as an unlucky number, remarkably he died on the the 13th of November, this very day! Another theory says that it is two superstitions combined: that thirteen is unlucky and Friday is an unlucky day.
Reading further I started to feel that a lot of this is from theories and myths and really the superstition has come together from many different sources. Pagans around the 11th century considered 13 to be a lucky number but as Christians opposed Paganism they promoted it as an unlucky number.
On 12th June 2008, The Dutch Centre for Insurance Statistics stated that fewer accidents and reports of fire and theft occur when the 13th of the month falls on a Friday than any other days.
My advice is to not let Friday 13th take over your life and possibly to take advantage of the fact that all those superstitious bingo players won't be playing and you stand more of a chance to win those big guaranteed jackpots!
